Who was Sonia Pierre?
By Levi Canizare
Sonia Pierre is an activist who fights for Antihaitianismo because Haitians do not the regular rights that Dominicans get. She fought for Antihaitianismo because they won't able to own a house, birth certificate, car and more. This made Sonia Pierre determined to help Haitians gain their rights. That is why she created a foundation called Movement of Dominican Haitian Women (MUDHA). It was created in 1983. MUDHA's intention is to influence public policies to promote change in the national legislation to support its commitments; and to support the women involved in the organization by conducting training and community health plans and programs aimed at improving their living standards and those of their communities.

The chorus is pretty cool, but be sure to pay attention to some of the lyrics and sing along!
Sung to the tune of Chumbawumba "Thumbthucking":
(Chorus) She got knocked down, but she got up again
they never gonna keep her down
She got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
She got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
She got knocked down, but She got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
She got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down.
She got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
she got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
she get knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
...She went to jail but that didn’t matter,
because they have gotten some attention from all her chatter.
They had gotten better wages,
and tools to do their job in stages.
(Chorus - sing half of the chorus stanza)
...She was powerhouse, she was not a mouse,
She started to protest, above the rest.
Sonia received so many awards, UNESCO, Amnesty, United States Department of State to name a few,
She used her voice to tell the world what to do.
(Chorus - sing half of the chorus stanza)
...She was born in Villa Altagracia, San Cristobal, Dominican Republic on July 4 1963
At the age of 14, I started a protest by sugar cane workers, yes little old me,
She went to jail but that didn’t matter,
because they have gotten some attention from all my chatter.
They had gotten better wages,
and tools to do their job in stages.
(Chorus - sing half of the chorus stanza)
...She is Sonia Pierre and she was a human rights advocate,
and that was adequate
She got knocked down, because she fought against all of them.
I won’t quit fighting for my Haitian people.
My name is Sonia Pierre,
and I’ll always win!
You’re never gonna take my message down!
(Chorus) She got knocked down, but she got up again
they never gonna keep her down
She got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
She got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
She got knocked down, but She got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
She got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down.
She got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
she got knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
she get knocked down, but she got up again
they are never gonna keep her down
